Our Mission

The mission of the Raytown Emergency Medical Services is to provide high quality, efficient, and effective emergency medical services to the citizens of Raytown and all others that we serve, and to promote wellness and safety for all citizens of  our community by offering pertinent programs of education and training, and by monitoring the health of our citizens with various services.

Raytown EMS FleetRaytown EMS has been in operation since July 4th, 1976. The station was located in an old fire station from 1980-1999. In 2000, the station was relocated to 10020 E. 66th Terrace. A ceremony was held dedicating the building to Willard H. Ross, a former mayor who was instrumental in establishing Raytown EMS.  Raytown EMS operates two ambulances 24 hours a day, employs 9 paramedics & 4 EMTs along with administrative & part-time staff. Raytown EMS is a municipally operated service.  In 2016, Raytown EMS is expected to respond to approximately 4600 calls, both emergency & non-emergency.

In 2005, Raytown EMS became a training center accredited through Missouri’s Bureau of Emergency Medical Services & began its first EMT program.  Raytown EMS offers two EMT courses a year for persons interested in pre-hospital emergency care. The graduates of our EMT program are exceeding the national average on test scores. The program also provides excellent EMTs to the community. Many of the EMTs at Raytown EMS are  former graduates of the program.  Raytown EMS also has a wide variety of special classes for the EMS provider, nurses & doctors.   Raytown EMS has started offering an EMR, Emergency Medical Responder, course. Some businesses are requiring their staff to be EMR certified & Raytown EMS has become a great resource for these businesses. Our education program at Raytown EMS has grown tremendously since its inception, even now providing CPR classes in local schools.

Raytown EMS also offers many services to the community such as CPR & first aid classes, free blood pressure checks, & child safety seat installations & checks. In 2016, Raytown EMS will install & inspect over 150 child safety seats, with over 50 of those being provided by our department through grant funds received to parents who financially cannot provide a child seat for their child. Raytown EMS applies for grant funding to be able to provide this service to our community. Our certified    technicians have been providing installation instruction to many foster parents in the KC Metro area to aid them in the care of their children. Our child safety seat program continues to be well known throughout the area & continues to grow. The department has 6 employees who are certified child safety seat technicians.

Raytown EMS participates in many public relations community events: hosting blood drives, tours of the ambulance station, appearances at Senior Health Fairs, career days at our local schools, & talks with Scout troops. The employees at Raytown EMS feel strongly about giving to their community & do so through a wide variety of programs. Raytown EMS is partnering with Laurel Hills Elementary School through Caring for Kids. EMS staff has provided hygiene products, school supplies for the students, & holiday meals with their personal funds for families. They have also provided snacks & hand written posters to show appreciation to teachers & staff as well as participated in many events such as their carnival, art fair, & Trunk or Treat.

Raytown EMS has a history of going beyond their mission & reaching out to the community in new and thoughtful ways.
