Community Spirit. Have you ever thought what that truly could look like? Community spirit could be you are supporting the local businesses in Raytown by either buying their products, using their services or even referring them to your friends and colleagues. Community spirit could be getting a group from your neighborhood to help pick up trash, mow grass and take care of the weeds so it will look the best it can. Community spirit could be you decorating your business in blue and red to show support for the two local high schools. Here in Raytown we need to do a better job of showing our community spirit. Raytown is a great place to live, to work and to play!

Exciting times are ahead for Raytown with various new projects on the horizon, in regards to redevelopment of current space and new businesses coming to Raytown. Plus the 63rd Street Bridge should be open sometime the week of August 2! Plans are being made for a formal grand opening sometime in the fall. Be watching for more details to follow through this website, the Chamber’s Facebook page, the Chamber’s Twitter feed or the City’s website as well.

The July 28 Chamber luncheon will feature Tom Cole, the Raytown Economic Development Administrator, who will give us an update on what is happening with economic development since he was hired in November 2009. Reservations can be made online or by calling the Chamber at 816-353-8500. Luncheon will be at the RQS Education & Conference Center (10750 E. State Route 350). Networking begins at 11:00 a.m. with lunch at 11:30 and program beginning at noon. Cost is $13.00 per person and reservations are due by Monday, July 26 at noon. All no shows will be invoiced.

A special thank you to all the sponsors, vendors, BBQ teams and volunteers who helped make this year’s Raytown SummerFest & BBQ Cookoff a success. Even though rain hit us early on Saturday, we went with the mentality – the show must go on! We will take a month off and begin to look at 2011. Now on to other events. June 11 & 12, the Chamber will host Raytown’s largest community event. Come out and enjoy 2 days of fun, friends & BBQ. Ribs, chicken, brisket & more availalbe both days to eat in or take out. Live entertainment in the large tent, carnival rides, arts, crafts and business vendors, a children’s area with many more scheduled activites on Saturday. Jobs Now Program for Small Businesses

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver will hold an information meeting for small businesses who are interested in receiving more details about the Job Now Program. The meeting will be held at the Anita Gorman Discovery Center auditorium, 4750 Troost Ave, KCMO from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on May 24. Please RSVP by sending an email to matt.orlovick@mail.house.gov.
