Starting this month, you will begin to see Think Raytown First window clings around town. We hope by getting the businesses to Think Raytown First, the residents will join in and also Think Raytown First. If each business/resident bought one additional item or paid for one additional service in Raytown, think about what that would do to the local economy. I challenge each person no matter if you live here or work here to Think Raytown First.

State of the City Luncheon

If you are interested in hearing Mayor David Bower give his “State of the City” speech at the March 13 Chamber luncheon, please call 816-353-8500 and make your reservation before Noon on Monday, March 11. Reservations are required. The cost is $20 per person. The luncheon will be held at First Baptist Church Raytown, 10500 E. 350 Highway, Raytown 64138. Networking and registration begins at 11:00; lunch buffet at 11:30 with program starting at Noon. This luncheon is open to the public with a reservation. Hope to see you there! Come hear all the exciting things happening in Raytown.

Chair of the Board

Shawna Burns (Commerce Bank) has recently taken the reigns as Chair of the Board for the Raytown Chamber. Make a reservation before noon on Monday, January 21 to hear her vision for 2013. Chamber Celebration luncheon will be held at Holiday Inn CoCo Key Hotel, reservations required, $20.00 per person. Awards will be handed out for Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Chamber Person of the Year and Volunteer of the Year. Call 816-353-8500 for more details. While you are out doing your holiday shopping, take a look at all the progress that is happening within the City. New construction is happening on 350 Highway, new businesses are close to opening, existing buildings are getting facelifts and new places to eat are popping up all over town. Remember to “Think Raytown First” when shopping for that product or service you need. Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Progress

As you drive around Raytown over the next few weeks, you will see progress. Gamestop opened this week and after visiting Chipotle, they will be opening on Sunday. Both of these news businesses look great! The dirt is being moved for the Hy-Vee Convenience Store and there is a sign in the building next to Sutherlands that says coming soon Extreme Grand Prix. An army surplus store will be opening soon in the Blue Ridge Plaza shopping center and Northcraft Granite and Flooring is getting close to their grand opening. Players Paradise is moving forward and we know of other businesses working to finalize their plans. We have heard of a few businesses struggling and we hope that Raytown folks will remember to “Think Raytown First” when making any purchases or needing services.

What does the number 12 mean to you?

To the Raytown School District’s it means, their Annual Performance report shows 12 of 14 standards met, up from 9 standards met one year ago at this time. The increases are in the area of elementary math scores, overall points earned, and MAP (Missouri Assesment Program) Bonus points. “Raytown Resolve” kept the district moving forward
and 12 is due to a great deal of hard work on the part of the school district’s staff and administration. The Annual Performance Report is used to measure school district’s progress toward 14 standards. Raytown will still be working toward meeting MAP scores for grades 3-5 Communication Arts and grades 6-8 Mathematics. Congratulations to the Raytown School District for a job well done!

The next time you see one of the many great teachers, administrators or even support staff of the Raytown Quality Schools, thank them for taking great care of our kids.

Raytown Loves Baseball

Have you heard Raytown Loves Baseball? It is being reported that over $60 million dollars will be spent in the Kansas City metro area during the first two weeks of July and Raytown is hoping to attract some of those visitors to our town. Adopt a street groups will be picking up trash at the beginning of July; businesses will begin to spruce up their store fronts along with running specials and making visitors as well as local residents feel right at home. What a great time to show case our City! Also, remember the Chamber is selling Raytown Loves Baseball t-shirts for just $12.00 each. Shirts can be purchased at the Chamber office between 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Call ahead to make sure there is someone in the office 816-353-8500.

Free movie night in the park scheduled for Saturday, July 7 – Colman Park with a free home run derby starting at 8:15 pm. Players Paradise and KC Metro Youth Sports along with The Friends of the Raytown Parks will be presenting Sandlot! Buck Night Concessions will be available too.
