Welcome from the Mayor

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the City of Raytown, Missouri. We are a crossroads community, embracing diversity and working together. I want to say how proud I am to be the mayor of this wonderful City. It is a great honor to serve the community that I have lived in most all my life. We are a    close-knit community in the middle of the Kansas City Metro area. We are easily accessible from anywhere in the Metro area, surrounded by many highways and interstate highways. Close to many amenities in the area, such as the Truman Sports complex, just 5 minutes to our north, also many quality eateries, bakeries and mom and pop shops throughout our city. The Raytown Chamber of Commerce and     Tourism is a great resource for long established and new businesses. They have a   multitude of information and ideas to help and are always anxious to be of assistance. We also have the Raytown Main Street Association to be of additional assistance to the businesses in our downtown area.

We boast much history within our borders, such as the Santa Fe, Oregon, and  California trails and a new addition, the Rock Island Corridor trail. We also have the Rice Tremonti House, the Raytown Historical Society and the Cave Spring Park and Barnes Enclosure, along the Santa Fe trails. This City just finished surpassing its 70th Birthday a few years ago. William Ray established a blacksmith shop on the Santa Fe Trail in Jackson County in about 1848. The settlement around the blacksmith shop was known first as “Ray’s Town” and later as “Raytown” in 1854. The city was then founded in 1950.

This city has many beautiful parks, with tennis courts and pickle ball courts. The City and Parks in concert with the Chamber and Main Street Association, hold many events, such as the Raytown Live Concert Series, Mayor’s Tree Lighting with visits by Santa each year. There are other events such as the Eggstravaganza and Parade, the Raytown Educational Foundation Run for Excellence. We also have one of the most prestigious BMX bike tracks in the United States with many local champions. We have sports for kids and Scouts too. One more thing, we have a nationally known brewery, Crane Brewery and also Harp BBQ, one of the best in the nation.

Last, but most important, we have the best people you will meet anywhere. It is a place where people helping people is not just a slogan, but a reality. Enjoy our town whether you are just visiting or plan to move your business or family here. You will not be sorry.
